THE CAT IN THE TREE

A warning to all photographers

All photgraphers want to capture events good or bad to share with others. Unfortunately our perception with good isn't always shared by others, especially the press!!

This set of images was used by my local paper, The Gloucestershire Echo. I was called by the paper a day or so later asking if they could circulate them to other press agencies as the images I submitted provided such a good story, It was no problem for me and hoped it would provide a useful article to illustrate the care the emergency services provided to animals.

Good news rarely sells as well as bad and to my despair several national newspapers had a reference to an article on the front page stating what a waste of money it was to rescue a cat!

The figures they quoted obviously included all of the costs of the fire service for the hour or so involved. Many of these costs were fixed and would have been incurred whether they had been called or not. The only real cost was getting the vehicles to the location, about a mile, and a police car to ensure traffic flow was not badly affected.

Take care with the press, I have had several experiences where trying to work with them positively has fuelled their negative ability.
